"In last month's issue, we reported that Robin and Tony Rogers
won the Acoustic Talent Competition held at the Evening Muse.
Actually, Robin and Tony Rogers were double winners this past month.
Starting this year the Blues Foundation has a new category to be
judged at the International Blues Competition. Along with the "Best
Band" and "Best Solo or Duo" act, each Blues Society is being
encouraged to submit a CD which has been released in the past year
for consideration in the "Best Self-Produced CD" competition. After
a good bit of deliberation, the Board of Directors selected Robin
Rogers' CRAZY CRYIN' BLUES over Delta Moon's GOING DOWN SOUTH. Good
luck to Robin and Tony in both categories!"
Robin Rogers & "Crazy Cryin’ Blues" CD Review by Gerald
Donnelly, CBS Bluesletter
For her sophomore release Robin assembled a familiar cast of
players and once again selected local legend, Jim Brock to sit
behind the controls as producer. For “Crazy Cryin’ Blues” Robin focused on a core blues offering in performing an entire disc
of cover interpretations of timeless and less than mainstream blues
classics. Opening the twelve-track collection is Reverend Gary Davis’
Hesitation Blues, which features a sweet solo by Phil Thompson on
clarinet. Robin’s full octave range is tested with the gospel
oriented It’s a Blessing and the Ma Rainy influenced Hip Shakin’
Mama. Husband and lead guitarist Tony Rogers truly shines and fuels
the “back-porch” tracks on the resonator guitar and Mark Stallings
on piano keeps this musical train enjoyable beyond expectations.
Robin and Her Hot Band represented our Charlotte Blues Society in
this year’s International Blues Challenge in Memphis and competed
against ninety-eight musical acts. Robin’s talents and electrifying
stage presence rose to the challenge and was voted as one of nine
finalists for the ultimate round of competition. The esteemed panel
of judges quickly realized what the Charlotte region has come to
treasure.
Visit Robin’s website and plan an evening out to catch one of
Charlotte’s most talented and hardest working acts. Robin’s
infectious smile is representative of the fun she enjoys on stage
and always translates into an enjoyable evening for all parties on
both sides of the stage. |
